Health
Improvement Fund

The Fund was established by Worcestershire Primary Care Trust in
September 2008 to help elected members of the County Council act as
champions for better health and play a role in improving the health
of their constituents.
The Fund will support projects with the objectives of promoting
healthier lifestyles - specifically:
- Reducing smoking;
- Increasing physical activity;
- Improving diet; and/or
- Reducing harmful consumption of alcohol.
In addition projects should aim to complement County-wide health
improvement initiatives and contribute to delivery of relevant
targets in the Local Area Agreement as below:
- Increasing adult participation in sport;
- Reducing alcohol related hospital admissions
- Reducing childhood obesity
- Reducing teenage pregnancy
- Increasing young people's participation in positive
activities
- Reducing smoking among adults
- Reducing deaths from heart disease

The Fund has been allocated to each electoral Division according
to its size and deprivation and Members will need to liaise with
their communities to identify, design and implement these projects.
Either choosing to approach and work with communities directly,
through the voluntary and community sector, or through local
partnerships such as District Local Strategic Partnerships or
Neighbourhood groups. Ideas can also be discussed with local Public
Health Consultants or Health Improvement Co-ordinators.
This fund has now closed.
